First Lunch, 8/30

After checking into the dorm, the students walked to their first lunch in Vietnam at a Pho (noodle soup) restaurant. Pho takes on many forms, with the stock varying significantly by geographic region, but it is at all times a staple for the Vietnamese people for breakfast, lunch, and sometimes dinner. Have you ever tried to eat noodle soup with chopsticks? That's how the Vietnamese do it. They do give you a spoon so you can get the broth. There are no McDonald's in Vietnam (The only place I think they haven't infiltrated. Even China has McDonald's.). However there are Pho 24 restaurants throughout the country; their own version of fast food. An aside: About the only U.S. chain that has made a foothold in Vietnam is Kentucky Fried Chicken. Stores are all over, and the Vietnamese love it, especially the kids.
